Isipathana College continued their telling roll in the Dialog Schools’ Rugby League in ending Wesley College’s unbeaten run by a close 21 to 17 margin in a rib bruiser at Havelock Park in enlivening the week-end in a roar to heightening the action this season with several schools in the fray to calling the shots.
The victory was more the memorable in that the Green Machine from the famous Havelock Park school came from behind after trailing 5-10 at half time to keeping their long running synonymous tradition seeped with Havelock Park rugby in downing the gallant Wesleyites in a repeat show of having triumphed from behind in the knockout tournament after Wesley had drawn first blood through a penalty by stand in skipper Abdul Haadhi for the injured Sandul Gammanpila s Wesley held sway in the first half following up by a 24th minute try by Kaizer Lye with Haadhi converting it.
The Patana hit back by a 28th minute unconverted try by center Situ Rajapakse as Wesley led 10-5 at lemons.
Come the turn around, Isipathana really made it count true to their reputation of fighting against the odds with Avishka Hiran adding a 44th minute penalty followed in almost quick succession a 49th minute try by No. 8 Shaakib zumri to bounce back to lead 15-10. Isipathana was spot on with a 52nd minute penalty by Hiran to an insulating 18-10 high.
Wesley fought back with Niluth Hapugalle planting a try with Haadhi converting to cutting the deficit to 17-18.
Isipathana it was that relentlessly battled to putting through a 59th minute try to a 21-17 hurrah.
