Sri Lanka was thrashed by Bangladesh by 84 runs in a destruction of the innings for 94 in a complete change around by Bangladesh from a hitherto butt end of their tour of Sri Lanka to drawing level in the 3 match T20 series on a brilliant all round performance led by a Player of the Match 76 by skipper Litton Das and an immaculate bowling effort by the threesome led by leg spinner Rishab Hossain 3 for 18 snd 2 each by pace bowlers Shoriful Islam and Mohammad Saifuddin in the second game yesterday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka probably got it wrong in skipper Charith Asalanka not batting first winning the toss. His bowlers did reduce the visitors to 78 for 4 after 11.4 overs.but their failure to check the 5 sixes onslaught by Dad and a hurricane 48 off 27 by Shamin Hossain let Bangladesh off the hook to reaching the high of 177 for 7 in 20 overs.
It brought Bangladesh right back to a position of having a go in the series decider in Colombo on Wednesday.
Pathum Nissanka got 32 and former Captain Dasun Shanaka 20 at No 6. Back after being left out for quite sometime, the burly pinch hitter gave the impression he would be worth more runs opening the batting which is a factor head coach Sanath Jayasuriya should give serious thought to creating the pinch hitting salvo he once did during his hey day opening the batting.
As it was it was s huge disappointment for the massive home crowd watching their Lions go out in a whimper – Kusal Janith Perera 0, Fernando 2, skipper Asalanka 5, Chamika Karunaratne 0 in that mess.
The in form Kusal Mendis was run out for 8 which was a big blow, but it left many to ponder as to why the rest except for skipper Asalanka who has been among the runs and Pathum Nissanka, who scored 32, depend on Mendis to do the job for the side
Bangladesh 177 for 7 (Litton 76, Shamim 48, Binura 3-31) beat Sri Lanka 94 (Nissanka 32, Rishad 3-18, Shoriful 2-12) by 83 runs
