Australia A were on a strong 379 for 3 in reply to Sri Lanka A’s 485 by day three of the unofficial test match highlighted by centuries by opening batsman Jake Weatherald 183, and skipper Jason Sangha an unbeaten 121 at the Marrara Oval in Darwin as the second unofficial test was poised for a draw leaving the 2-match series heading for a no decision with a day remaining.
Weatherald struck 16 boundaries and 2 sixes in posting 209 for the third wicket together with skipper Sangha whose 206 ball innings was studded with 9 boundaries and a six. Kurtis Patterson made 59.
Darwin born Weatherald reportedly enhanced his prospects for a Ashes call up to pair with Usman Khawaja with the Aussie selectors searching for the ideal replacement for the retired David Warner.
Asanka Manoj accounted for Patterson’s wicket having him caught by Sonal Dinusha while Weatherald’s marathon innings was ended by
Nuwanidu Fernando who bowled him.
