Introducing another first to Sri Lanka’s automobile industry, Casons Rent a Car, a leading family-run car rental company, has launched a unique “Drive and Own” program, enabling drivers to own their dream electric vehicle.

Under this innovative initiative, Casons provides a brand-new Jaicoo EV to participating drivers. They work with Casons Rent a Car, and upon completing a pre-designated mileage target, ownership of the vehicle is transferred to the driver.

“The uniqueness of this scheme is that, unlike traditional leasing or hire-purchase methods, the driver earns an income from operating hires for Casons while progressing toward ownership,” said M.C. Zakir Ahamed, Founder and Chairman of Casons Rent a Car.

He noted that the program was launched both to promote eco-friendly mobility and to empower long-serving drivers to become proud owners of brand-new electric vehicles.

Customers, in turn, benefit from riding in new, environmentally friendly vehicles that contribute to sustainable transportation.

“We have already begun this initiative, and around 20 drivers have joined the program,” Ahamed added.

Casons Rent a Car, also made history by introducing the country’s first-ever fleet of eco-friendly vehicles, setting a new benchmark for sustainable mobility in the transport and tourism sectors.

Ahamed said the company has added a new range of vehicles designed to minimise environmental impact and reduce carbon emissions. The fleet includes fully electric vehicles (EVs) with zero tailpipe emissions, as well as hybrid and clean diesel models offering enhanced fuel efficiency and lower pollution levels.

Ahamed noted that customer demand for eco-friendly transport options has been steadily rising, driven by growing environmental awareness and the lower operating costs of EVs.

Renowned for its service excellence, Casons Rent a Car first expanded its footprint to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in 2017, where it operates a modern travel counter at the arrival terminal.

Ahamed also revealed that Casons, which celebrates its 38th anniversary on November 5, has recently added Jaicoo electric cars toits fleet. These vehicles are available for rent at both the company’s Rajagiriya head office and BIA counter, ensuring convenient access for
local and international travellers alike.

With the launch of the country’s largest eco-friendly fleet, the company reaffirms its commitment to building a cleaner, greener future for Sri Lanka’s mobility landscape.
