World No.333 Victoria Mboko stuns Naomi Osaka to win Canadian Open title

Teenage sensation eighteen year old Canadian Victoria Mboko stunned Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to land the Canadian Open title at Montreal to soar to No. 24 from No. 85 on WTA rankings in Montreal in leaping from No. 49 to No. 25.

She made history by her title success becoming the second-youngest woman in the Open Era to defeat four Grand Slam champions at the same WTA event, having taken out Sofia Kenin in the second round, Coco Gauff in the fourth round, Elena Rybakina in the semifinals and Naomi Osaka in the final. The youngest woman to achieve that feat was Serena Williams, who did it as a 17-year-old at the 1999 US Open, en route to the first of her 23 Grand Slam titles.

It was an incredible triumph for Victoria Mboko who smashed her way to stardom in snuffing out the favourite Naomi Osaka in sn absolute breakthrough week and a half in Montreal this year.
The Canadian who will turn 19 on August 26, breezed to the Canadian title cheered on by a huge home crowd which exulted at their local heroine who is the Canadian No.1, annihilate Osaka. not just reaching her firstf WTA quarterfinal, semifinal or final, but going all the way to the first WTA title of her career.

Her rise is even more incredible considering she started the year from the virtual dumps ranked No. 333. She broke into the Top 200 by March after winning five ITF Circuit titles in the first few months of the year, then debuted in the Top 100 in June after reaching the third round of Roland Garros as a qualifier.

Now, she has cracked the Top 50—and even the Top 30—after latest run.
