Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz sped closer to becoming the first player in history to win three successive wimbledon titles when he won9 his semi-final against world number five Taylor Fritz, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6) on Friday July 11.

On the way he swept aside Britian’s Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in a one sided facile triumph a day ago.

The Spaniard thus underlined why he is the tournament favourite.

The undisputed top player in world tennis ever since he dethroned the 2022 wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in the finals in 2023 and repeated the feat against the Serbian in 2024, Alcaraz has enjoyed a crest wave of success to literally rising to be regarded the king of tennis having tamed all his adversaries including world No 1 Jannik Sinner whom he defeated in the recent French Open final by a last thread magical comeback from having been dominated by the Italian for a major part of the game. Fritz secured his place in the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time with a 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4) victory over Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

Alcaraz is seeded behind Italian rival Jannik Sinner because of their respective world rankings, but his superior record on grass courts – and current hot streak – makes him the man to beat.

Victory over Fritz was his 23rd win in a row in moving closer to scripting a new historic chapter at Wimbledon.

“I’m really happy. To play another Wimbledon semi-final is super special,” voiced Alcaraz following his victory over Norrie lasting one hour and 39 minutes.

“My confidence is really high, I’m feeling great. It was my best match so far in the tournament.”
