Sri Lanka hounded Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs this morning winning with more than a day and three quarter to spare for vital points in in the ICC World Championship second test match as Dhananjaya de Silva’s men took just 28 minutes of 5.4 overs to finish off the Bangladeshis for the addition of 18 runs with spin wizard Prabath Jayasuriya digging out three of the last four wickets in a 133 jolt consuming 44.2 overs with Tharindu Rathnayake nailing the last one, Ebadot Hossain leg before wicket for 6. The short shrift triumph on a traditionally batting friendly SSC surface was thus tremendous with full marks to the Lankan bowlers with skipper Dhananjaya de Silva himself leading by example grabbing two early big wickets including the prize one of the Bangla skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto cheaply which was a huge strike to the road to victory, the ninth innings triumph by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh. Si Lanka thus took the series 1-nil.
Sri Lanka’s hero with the bat Prabath Nissanka, who set up the win by a characteristic big show innings he is renowned for written in 158 runs to go with the 187 in the first test at Galle, found just reward for his last gem of an innings in being declared the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series.
It was the two wickets by Dhananjaya de Silva and the very first of the Bangladesh innings by quick Asitha Fernando that saw Sri Lanka make early inroads to victory, particularly the ball by Dhananjaya that claimed the wicket of his opposite number Najmul Hossain Shanto for just 8.
From that point the show belonged to Prabath Jayasuriya who first further dented Bangladesh by seeing off the highly experienced Mushfiqur Rahim by bowling him all ends up on the third day and adding the last recognized Bangladesh batsman to his bag in Litton Das caught behind by wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis for 14.
