South Africa’s Tazmin Brits infused the heat with a near run a ball century to a run avalanche second ICC Women’s Tri Series contest yesterday, but the heat ran out for the Protea Women when their lynchpin crash landed by a hamstring retirement soon after reaching her century that put paid to chasing 276 with India pulling off a thrilling contest by 15 runs yesterday at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
India had set the ball rolling hammering a near 300 score after winning the toss on a top score of 78 by their Player of the match hero against Sri Lanka, Pratika Rawal. Balooning that score were skipper Harmampreet Kaur 41, Jemimah Rodrigues 41, Smriti Mndhana 36 and Harleen Deol 29 as the South African bowling attack was shred to tatters by the Indian batters.
However, all that run feast paled out in the face of the Tazmin Brits who reached her century smashing 13 four and 3 over the top, and her skipper Laura Wolvaardt 43 illuminating the day by a threatening 140 first wicket stand that seemed to take the game away from the Indians.
