Sri Lanka’s athletes blazed a trail of 8 medals at the Asian Under 18 Athletics Championships winning 8 medals – one gold, three silver, and four bronze — to finishing 9th in the overall medal standings at the Asian U18 Athletics Championships 2025 in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, Sri Lanka did well to be significantly one of only 19 countries to win at least one medal with its tally of eight medals being the highest number won by any participating country at this year’s championship.

Sri Lanka’s golden girl was Tharushi Abisheka who won the Gold medal in the Women’s 800m event at the Asian Under 18 Athletics Championships 2025 being held in Saudi Arabia.

Sri Lanka’s medal groove was heightened by winning the silver medal in the women’s medley relay event clocking a time of 2:14.25 minutes — a new national youth record.

Meanwhile, Shavindu Awishka won the Bronze medal in the Men’s 800m event with a time of 1:53.41 at the Asian U18 Athletics Championships 2025 today.

Pawan Nethya Sampath, who participated in the Men’s High Jump event also secured the Bronze medal at the Asian U18 Athletics Championships 2025.

He cleared a height of 2.03m to win the Bronze at the event

The Lankans overall achievement this year shows a marked improvement from the 2023 edition where Sri Lanka secured just four medals, two silver and two bronze.

China dominated the medal table with 19 gold, 12 silver, and five bronze medals with Japan in second place with three gold, three silvers, and one bronze, while host nation Saudi Arabia was third, winning three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
